COVID Young Warriors

COVID Young Warriors

The Smiling foundation has been committed to helping combat the many issues and struggles of the Covid-19 pandemic. When the pandemic began in 2020, the foundation began to help the Jain temple distribute meals to those in need over the course of 5 months. Beginning in early 2021, the foundation took on the needs of the healthcare industry. We donated nearly 5000 masks, 1000 gloves, and 300 16 oz hand sanitizer bottles to various places such as hospitals, the UPS, and even a nursing home.

We would continue to spread awareness about the Covid pandemic and its vaccines by holding podcasts with doctors as guest speakers. The organization would continue to help volunteer with multiple pharmacies to help administer vaccines out to the public. Recently, we have taken on the issue of the pandemic overwhelming India. In order to help with the oxygen crisis in India, The Smiling Foundation has shipped many concentrators to India for families who cannot receive treatment to use in times of need. Our goal is to ship 50 concentrators to India within the next few months (over $50,000 dollars worth of concentrators).

Providing Food to the One's in Need

With the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, many families were struggling to provide meals for their families and kids who once received meals from school. The Smiling Foundation partnered with the Jain Center of Southern California in Buena Park and we helped distribute over 168,000 meals over the course of a 20 week program starting from April of 2020. The foundation helped pass out these meals through a COVID friendly drive through service where we would place meals in the trunks of cars. With the help of the council persons of Buena Park, we would distribute 7 days worth of meals to almost 400 families every week.

Helping First Responders

In early 2021, The Smiling Foundation would purchase and donate over 3,000 N-95 masks to the PIH hospital in Whittier, California. We would continue by donating another 500 masks to the United States Postal Service in the Bay Area, San Francisco. The foundation would donate another 1000 N-95 masks, 1000 gloves, and 300 hand sanitizer bottles to the Mirada Hills Rehabilitation and Convalescent Hospital in La Mirada, California. This hospital was a nursing facility for elderly men and women with a permanent care facility also.

Vaccination Events

Recently, The Smiling Foundation has partnered with the VM Pharmacy and the Jain Center of Southern California to provide vaccinations. We have had 10 of these events so far and helped to give over 1,500 vaccinations. Our members and volunteers contributed by reaching a larger audience as well as checking in patients and completing the paperwork for registration.

We even take temperatures of patients and help to organize the camps overall. However, the biggest event is yet to come on May 8th, 2021, with over 800 vaccines being given. The event takes place at 8072 Commonwealth Ave., Buena Park, California from 11 a.m to 3 p.m PST. Vaccinating the people brings us one step closer to combating the coronavirus pandemic.
